From our years of completing major interior design projects in renovation and new construction homes, we have learned some simple requirements to make sure your dream kitchen becomes a reality. Here are six thought starters to get you going.
- Explore your specific needs, wishes and what your dream kitchen looks like to you.
- Write down a list of everything from #1. Now you know what to include going forward.
- Designers do not have an exclusive on creating layouts. Create your own layout, even if it is scratch work. Now you are on your way to designing all of the possible workspaces, incorporating your listed needs, wishes, and functions.
- Make sure you research each of the specific appliances needed in your new kitchen. Measurements of everything is critical to make sure there is adequate space for everything you want and need.
- Think about where you will need critical lighting for kitchen tasks and your overall room lighting experience. Both are vital to a well-functioning kitchen.
- Once these elements are brought together, now you are ready to begin exploring materials and finishes. Enjoy the discovery process. Figure out what will be practical, what will be beautiful and how you want to make this space the one you’ve always dreamed about. In this example kitchen (see photo) , our team accomplished this with a client who needed to recreate a new smaller dream kitchen after downsizing from a much bigger home. Our challenge was how to include all of the same needs from her previous larger kitchen into a smaller space, without compromising her needs or vision. Here the kitchen opens to the main living area, so the need for visual continuity, flow and beauty was paramount.
